Finishing Touches

We use a combination of the following decorative finishes within the production of our stationery. These can also be used for any bespoke requirements.

Thermography

Thermography is achieved when a powdered resin is combined with wet ink and then heated under carefully controlled conditions to create a raised tactile effect. Stunning results are now possible with modern thermography powders, which range from a clear gloss or matt through to metallics and coloured powders with smells to suit. A very fine metallic sparkle can be added for a delicate finished effect or a solid area of glitter can be applied to enhance a larger image. The term 'raised printing' was originally used to describe thermography, which we believe was conceived to replicate embossed print.

Foil Printing

A heated die combined with impression and dwell enables the foil to be released from a carrier film onto the substrate. This style of printing and decoration is available in many metallic and pigmented colours as well as subtle pearlised effects and brilliant holographic designs. It can be incorporated with embossing to give a raised finish and foiled surfaces can be produced from engraved or grained dies to give special effects.

Embossing & Debossing

An engraved male and female die come together with considerable impression to create the raised or lowered effect that is called embossing or debossing. Exquisite detail can be produced dependent on the artwork submitted to the engraver and the amount of free license given for expression with the design. Embossing can be blind i.e. not on top of a pre printed image for an exceptional effect or part of an overall printed image.

Die Cutting

A high tensile steel cutting edged rule is shaped and mounted into a jig saw or laser cut wooden base to the shape required. This is called a die cutting forme. Impression is used to force the cutting rules through the substrate. Outside edge shapes and internal apertures can be die cut to create your design.
